PageSnag is built around local-first capture.

Last updated: June 10, 2026. PageSnag is a Chrome extension for capturing full-page screenshots. The default design goal is straightforward: screenshots stay on the device unless the user explicitly chooses a network action.

Overview

PageSnag does not collect, transmit, or store personal data on developer-controlled servers as part of its standard screenshot workflow.

What we do not do

  • Collect personal information such as name, email address, or browsing history
  • Run analytics, telemetry, or tracking scripts
  • Sell or share screenshot data with third parties
  • Require an account before the extension can be used

Permissions explained

Permission Why it exists What it accesses
activeTab Captures the tab the user intentionally chose. Only the active tab during a user-initiated capture.
scripting Measures page size and drives capture logic for full-page screenshots. No background browsing history or persistent page tracking.
storage Saves user preferences and local capture history. Stored on the user's device only.
tabs Reads the current tab title and URL for naming and context. The active tab being captured.
contextMenus Supports frame and scrollable-region capture from the right-click menu. No direct data collection.
offscreen Uses a hidden document for image stitching and processing. No network access on its own.
unlimitedStorage Helps store large captures locally without hitting quota limits. On-device storage only.

Screenshot data

Screenshots are processed and stored locally in the browser. Users can delete individual captures, clear history, or remove the extension entirely to remove locally stored data.

Optional AI features

AI features are disabled by default. If a user chooses to enable them, they provide their own Gemini API key and screenshot content is only sent when an AI action is explicitly triggered by the user.

PageSnag does not intercept, log, or store the screenshot data that is sent to Gemini. Google's policies apply to data sent directly to the Gemini API.

Third-party services

The standard extension workflow does not rely on third-party services except when a user explicitly chooses one.

  • Google Gemini API for optional AI actions, with a user-provided key
